A New Brand For Scottish Book Trust
Scottish Book Trust is the leading agency for the promotion of literature in Scotland, developing innovative projects to encourage adults and children to read, write and be inspired by books. In 2007 the trust invested £1.5 million, funding over 1,200 literature events, and promoting Scottish writing to around 10 million people worldwide.
The Brief
In 2007, the trust decided to re-launch, with a new brand, website and programme. Platform PR was asked to communicate the new image and key messages, to generate media coverage and to raise the trust’s profile with stakeholders and politicians.
What We Did
- Every MSP was written to, letting them know about the launch and highlighting projects the trust had been involved with in their local area. Media profiles featuring Scottish Book Trust staff were secured.
- Two launches took place – one in Edinburgh for media, politicians, writers and influencers, and the second in London, for publishers, writers and influencers.
- We secured a Parliamentary Motion acknowledging the work of the trust.
- Our photocall featured children’s author Julia Donaldson visiting an Edinburgh school with her much-loved ‘Gruffalo’ character.
- A feature on one aspect of Scottish Book Trust’s work – a prison inmate writing project - was placed in The Herald magazine.
What We Achieved
- In total, around 250 media and stakeholders attended the launches. The Parliamentary Motion was supported by 48 MSPs and we achieved media coverage across the UK valued at well over £100,000, reaching up to 1.2 million readers and listeners.
- Following the re-launch, Scottish Book Trust saw year-on-year visitors to its website double.
